Home Page Addition – Average High and Low Temperature for Today

Thursday, July 5th, 2018 1:12pm CDT

Now that our station has almost 10 years of historical data, we have added new cells to our websites home page displaying the Average High and Average Low Temperature for the current day based on measurements we have collected since October of 2009.

This feature would not be possible without scripts written by Murry Conarroe of Wildwood Weather in Decatur, Texas.

New Page – NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio

Monday, March 12th, 2018 3:32pm CDT

PlanoWeather.com is now streaming NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio Station KEC56 162.400MHz to NOAAWeatherRadio.org. Streams can be accessed from the following page: https://www.planoweather.com/wxradio.php.

From NOAAWeatherRadio.org/about/: “WHY? NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio Saves Lives! Every citizen should own, or be near an active, alarm-ready Weather Radio. We know that’s not always possible, and this one example is sufficient: Millions of folks work in situations where Weather Radios aren’t available, but computers and mobile devices are handy. So. Here. We. Are.”

Our setup is using a Midland WR300 Weather Radio, connected to our weather station computer audio interface, encoded as MP3 audio using butt (Broadcast Using This Tool) at 32k bit rate and 22,050Hz sample rate, then streamed to the NOAAWeatherRadio.org Icecast server, where it is continually checked for quality and availability.

We strongly recommend that all homes have a NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio. In addition to the Midland WR300 used for this project, we own and recommend the Midland WR400 Deluxe NOAA Weather Radio.

New Page – Local Lake Levels

Saturday, February 24th, 2018 4:07pm CST

A new page has been added to the site that provides current local lake levels – https://www.planoweather.com/wxriverpage.php. It is configured to poll the 5 nearest Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) monitored lakes. Data is updated to the page every 3 hours at 45 minutes past the hour. Clicking on each location will display its detailed page. For example, here are current details for Lake Lavon: https://www.planoweather.com/wxriverdetail.php?id=LVNT2

Station Rain Measurements

Saturday, February 24th, 2018 3:23pm CST

We use a manual rain gauge to backup and calibrate our station rain measurements. Here is Jessica performing her daily “chore” the morning of February 21, 2018. That is a lot of rain for a 24-hour period in February!

Upcoming Website Changes and Server Upgrade

Saturday, January 14th, 2017 2:44pm CST

The National Weather Service (NWS) will be implementing changes to its API as early as February 1, 2017. These changes will impact alerting protocols, forecast applications, and URL changes to SSL. As a result, the PlanoWeather.com server software must be upgraded for compatibility and many of our pages and back-end scripts will require updating. Over the next few weeks and when the NWS officially makes the transition, you may notice changes to the site and possibly experience issues as we work through the updates. Thank you in advance for your patience during this process.
